The first release of the historical catalogue of Mt. Etna earthquake (CMTE) was published in 2000, and since then it is regularly updated. The catalogue lists 1810 earthquakes in the time-span 1631-2013, described by the following parameters: epicentral location, maximum and epicentral intensity, macroseismic magnitude, associated coseismic surface faulting and, when known, seismogenic fault. A database of macroseismic intensities expressed in terms of the European macroseismic scale (EMS, Grünthal, 1998) is associated to each event, from which the earthquake parameters are derived. Instrumental data, such as magnitude, location and focal depth, are also reported since 1980s.

In the framework of the INGV Working Group on historical earthquake catalogues, CMTE has become the main data source for compiling the Italian parametric catalogue (CPTI15), sharing the same geographic directory for felt localities and procedure for deriving earthquake parameters.
